There was dancing in the streets Friday, and it was all part of the DeKalb County High School Homecoming celebration leading up to the Tiger football game at VanHooser Field Friday night.
With warm temperatures, the Homecoming Parade made its way around from the high school to Smithville Elementary School then Northside Elementary School, winding up in the Square where the DCHS cheerleaders performed to the excellent background music of the DCHS marching band.
The parade featured Homecoming Queen Allison Maynard and attendants Kaitlyn Cantrell, Kayla Belk, Leah Davis, Alley Sykes, and Callie Mulloy. Also celebrating in the parade were class and club floats, the football team, a bunch of decorated cars and trucks, county and city law enforcement officers, fire fighters, and emergency vehicles, among others.
Mr. And Miss DeKalb County High School Seniors Tyree Hollis Cripps and Breanna Leigh Gibson rode a candy-apple red sports car as they waved to the crowd.
Later Friday evening, the Homecoming Queen and Court made another appearance on the football field and the Tigers took care of business shutting down the Lions 42-0 to cap off a successful homecoming all the way around.
The Class of 1987 was also on hand to cheer the Tigers on from the stands as they were recognized during the game for celebrating their reunion this past weekend.
