DeKalb County High School senior Steven Jennings asks everyone to stop by any DeKalb County Liberty State Bank branch to donate to help out with Project Graduation.
“I am a captain on the baseball team, a captain on the football team, a member of the Literature Club, Science Club, FBLA, FCA, and the National BETA Club at DCHS,” Jennings said. “More importantly, I am a member of the 2017 graduating class. We are raising funds for our Project Graduation event that will take place the night of graduation in May. We will have food and fun activities. It is designed to keep us safe from the devastating effects of drugs and alcohol. In order to hold this event, we must raise funds and request the community’s help. Please stop by your local branch of Liberty State Bank in Alexandria, Liberty, or Smithville and make a donation to our account. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.”
A 50-inch flat screen TV will be raffled off during the DCHS basketball games against Smith County in Smithville on Feb. 6. Tickets are $8 each or two for $15. All proceeds go to DCHS Project Graduation.
A Corn Hole tournament is also set for Feb. 25.
Project Graduation is a program in which organized, adult-supervised and alcohol-free activities are offered as part of a post-graduation party, as an alternative to student-run events involving alcoholic beverages or other drugs. Events often last through the night and are held in hotels or community centers. Students are checked for illicit substances before entry and are carefully monitored.
