The deadline to qualify for offices up for grabs in the August 4 elections is tomorrow (April 7) at noon.
According to Administrator of Elections Dennis Stanley, there are still some seats for which no candidate has qualified. As of Monday, one of two aldermanic seats in Dowelltown lacks a candidate, and the only petition issued for the Dowelltown mayor’s office had not been returned. Petitions for two aldermen’s seats in Liberty had likewise not been returned.
William A. Davis has returned a petition for one of the Dowelltown alderman positions. Dwayne Blair and Todd Dodd have returned petitions to qualify for the race for alderman in Liberty, but candidates to fill an unexpired one-year term and another full four-year alderman’s term have not appeared.
Three alderman will be chosen in Smithville. Five petitions have been returned to the election commission, with two others issued. Richard Steinbach, Ronald Dale Stanley, and incumbents Shawn Jacobs, Josh Miller and Danny Washer have qualified to run.
Candidates for the DeKalb County General Election in August include:

•1st District County Commission: Republican Thomas Chandler, Democrat Julie Williams Young.
•4th District School Board: Kate Miller
•5th District School Board: W.J. (Dub) Evins, Kevin Hale and Barry Mabe
•6th District School Board: Doug Stephens.
•1st district Constable: Lee Plummer, Republican-Jason Taylor, Democrat
•2nd District Constable: Thomas Theriaque, Republican
•3rd District Constable: Travis Bryant; Democrat
•4th District Constable: Paul Cantrell, Democrat
•5th District Constable: Mark Milam, Democrat
•6th district Constable: Carl Lee Webb, Democrat
•7th district Constable: Johnny King, Democrat
In the 40th and 46th District state representative races, Republican incumbent Terry Lynn Weaver and Democrat Gayla Colvert Hendrix have filed petitions to qualify for the 40th. Petitions have been filed by Republican incumbent Mark Pody, Republican Jim Gibbs, and Democrat Amelia Hipps in the 46th.
