A 50-year-old man Dowelltown man died last week after being airlifted to Vanderbilt in the aftermath of a bicycle accident on Pea Ridge Road Thursday.The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash to determine if Tim Caldwell was the victim of a hit and run.Caldwell was reportedly in the Dry Creek community riding alone on a bicycle when he crashed into a ditch and was thrown from the bike.When central dispatch was notified just before 5 p.m., the caller reported that a man on a bicycle had been struck by a car.Authorities at the scene were reportedly able to speak with Caldwell, who told them that a big car with a young man at the wheel had run him off the road.Caldwell was transported to a helicopter landing zone by DeKalb EMS and flown to Vanderbilt, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.The THP is investigating the incident but has not yet been proven whether Caldwell was the victim of a hit and run.
