DeKalb unemployment rate at 8.1 percent

The October unemployment rate in DeKalb County was slightly up, at 8.1 percent, from September’s 7.8 percent and 7.2 percent in October 2012.The county’s labor force was reported at 9,510 in October, with 8,750 people employed and 770 looking for work.The unemployment rate increased in 64 counties, decreased in 18, and remained the same in 13 counties in October.In surrounding counties, Cannon County reported a 6.9 percent rate, Cumberland County was at 9.0 percent, and Jackson County’s rate was at 9.8 percent.The October rate in Putnam County was reported at 7.7 percent, Smith County had a 6.7 percent rate, and Warren County’s rate came in at 9.1 percent.White County had an 11 .0 percent rate for the month, while the rate in Wilson County was 6.6 percent.Davidson County had the state’s lowest major metropolitan rate at 6.7 percent, unchanged from September. Knox County’s October rate was also 6.7 percent, up from 6.6 percent the previous month.Hamilton County was unchanged at 8.0 percent. Shelby County’s rate was 10.1 percent, up from 9.9 percent in September.Tennessee’s unemployment rate for both September and October is 8.4 percent, one tenth of one percentage point lower than the August revised rate.
