Making the decision to continue his education and play football for Lindsey Wilson College, DCHS senior player Gage Delape made it official with a signing last week at the high school.

Delape’s father, Michael Delape, DCHS Football Head Coach Steve Trapp, assistant coaches Thomas Cagle, Justin Burum and Tommy Hinch, and Delape’s fellow teammates were on hand for the signing.

“It’s closer to home so my family and friends can watch us play and I feel comfortable there being with some people I know,” Delape said about why he chose Lindsey Wilson to pursue his future goals where he plans on majoring in physical therapy.

DCHS Head Coach Steve Trapp said Delape will be a good addition to the program.

“I’m just really excited for Gage to have the opportunity to continue to play football at the next level,” Trapp said. “He’s been a three-year starter for us, team captain for us last year, just one of those guys who’s done everything he’s needed to do in the classroom and on the football field to get that extra opportunity.

“He’s a big kid that can bend and move well so he had six or seven schools that kind of figured him out.

So he had a lot of opportunities or options I guess to go to some different places,” said Trapp. “We had a couple guys go to Lindsey Wilson last year so that’s going to be good for him. They like what he can do on the offensive line and fits in well with what they do. What they do is very similar to what we do as far as the offensive line goes with run scheme and pass protection. Terminology will be different but Gage is a hard worker and I think he’ll fit in well with them.”

LWC is a private four-year college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The school currently offers associate degrees in 10 areas of study, bachelor’s degrees in 26 areas of study with minors in 20 areas, and master’s degrees in counseling and human development, education, and interactive design. Lindsey Wilson is a member of the Mid-South Conference of the NAIA.

Delape was the 2017 team’s Offensive Lineman of the year and he was named to the 1st Team All-Region.
