According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, his department has brought an end to a string of burglaries and thefts allegedly committed by two local men in the Dowelltown and Dry Creek Road area.Ray said 24-year-old Allen R. Lester, Jr. of Dowelltown has been charged with 12 counts of burglary, three counts of theft property over $500, seven counts of theft under $500, and two counts of theft of property over $1,000. The second suspect, 18-year-old Ronald Deshon Reeder of Smithville, was charged with three counts of burglary, two counts of theft of property under $500 and one count of theft over $500.The burglaries and thefts apparently occurred between Dec. 28 and Jan. 10, and nine victims have been identified.Lester faces accusations that he broke into the Dowelltown Post Office, burglarized several automobiles, and stole items from outhouses and sheds.The sheriff said that while Lester committed the thefts, Reeder is charged in some of the crimes because he rode along on more than one of the capers.Lester allegedly entered the vehicles, most of which were unlocked, and took guns, GPS devices and other belongings.Ray said Reeder sat in the vehicle while Lester was committing some of the thefts, knowing what Lester was doing.After Lester was identified as a suspect on Friday detectives and sheriff's deputies raided his home and found many of the stolen items.Lester is charged with the burglary of the Dowelltown Post Office on Dec. 28, where he allegedly entered the building after hours and took three money orders totalling $630 in value.He was charged with burglary and theft over $500 for that incident.Lester allegedly entered five vehicles and a shed in Dowelltown on Jan. 7, taking a Garmin GPS, a phone mount, 15 Disney DVD movies, a car charger, 20 compact discs, and a car safety kit with a total value of $1,010 from the first.He was again charged with burglary and theft over $500.He then reportedly took an iPod, adapter, charger, and a Garmin GPS with a total value of $540 from a second vehicle, which garnered him another charge of burglary and theft over $500.He allegedly took a Stevens over-and-under 22-caliber 20-gauge shotgun, valued at $400 from a third vehicle, which netted him a charge of burglary and theft under $500.The fourth vehicle Lester allegedly broke into was relieved of a Tom Tom GPS valued at $125. He was again charged with burglary and theft under $500.He allegedly took another Tom Tom GPS from a fifth vehicle, which got him another charge of burglary and theft under $500.The shed burglary, which reportedly capped Lester’s Jan. 7 spree, yielded a 10-inch saw with laser guide, valued at $185, and brought another charge of burglary and theft under $500.Then, on Jan. 8, Lester allegedly entered a vehicle in Dowelltown and took a Remington rifle with a scope, an H&R rifle with a scope, and a Smith & Wesson rifle with a scope.The rifles were valued at $2,400, and resulted in another charge of burglary and theft over $1,000.Ray said Lester also entered a pickup in Dowelltown on Jan. 8 and took a bottle of blood pressure pills valued at $25.He was again charged with burglary and theft under $500.Lester allegedly entered another vehicle on Jan. 9, that time on Dry Creek Road.Ray said he took clothes, change, a buck knife, a hunting pouch, a hat, a vest, and rifle ammunition with a total value of $273.He received another charge of burglary and theft under $500.Ray said Reeder was charged for participating in that offense because he rode to the scene with Lester and knew that a crime was being committed.Lester allegedly entered another vehicle on Dry Creek Road on Jan. 10 and took yet another Tom Tom GPS and seven cell-phone chargers with a total value of $250, netting him another charge of burglary and theft under $500.Reeder was also charged in that case for allegedly participating by riding with Lester with the knowledge that a crime was being committed.Lester allegedly broke into a building on Dry Creek Road on Jan. 10 as well, taking a Play Station 3, an undisclosed amount of cash, a 250-piece Kobalt tool set, a Brother sewing machine and a pack of Pall Mall cigarettes.The total value of those items was $1,105, resulting in another charge of burglary and theft over $1,000.Reeder was charged in that case as well.Ray said Reeder once again rode along with Lester and waited in the car, knowing that a crime was being committed.Lester’s bonds total $195,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 31.Reeder's bonds total $16,000, and he will also appear in court on Jan. 31.Ray gave credit for the bust to the detectives who spent many hours on the trail of the thieves.“I want to thank the detectives,” he said.
