Remembering Jerry Winfree

We have really enjoyed looking out at the beautiful snow. It sure brings out the adventure in everyone.  The little ones ventured out in the bitter cold to play for a few minutes only to return with reddened faces and eyes watering. It was an effort for them to move around with all those layers of clothes, coats, and gloves on.

Our community was saddened to hear of the death of long time educator and friend, Jerry Winfree.  Jerry taught fourth grade at Smithville Elementary when your writer was working there as librarian.  Some thought he was a stern, regimented man, but he was always just a dear friend to me. The Fraziers attended his Christmas open house events, and visited in his home many times. We once bought an antique lamp from him that still lights one of our rooms today.

He enjoyed traveling and was always good to bring a nice gift back to his friends. He had a rare sense of humor that made him smile from ear to ear. His life looked simple in passing, often seeing him sitting in a rocking chair on his front porch or waving at him on one of his daily walks along the town’s streets. We are thankful to have known Jerry and from time to time reflect on precious memories spent here on earth. His days of peace and rest are now in his eternal home.

Please remember to keep the following in your prayers: JoAnn Pitman, Boyd Cantrell, Jimmy Kimbrell, Brandon Kent, and Danny Pirtle Jr.

And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
