Smithville Police have arrested two people and charged them in connection with a meth lab.
According to Smithville Police Chief Randy Caplinger, 20-year-old Matthew A. Murphy is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and 20-year-old Holly Cikalo was charged with promotion of methamphetamine in the case.
Caplinger said police were dispatched to a Woodlawn Street home on June 14 to investigate suspicions that Murphy had hidden meth lab components in the back yard.
Police reportedly found muratic acid, drain cleaner, lighter fluid, ice compresses, lithium batteries, and Claritin D on the premises.
Matthews allegedly admitted that the items belonged to him and that he intended to use them to make methamphetamine.
Cikalo, who was reportedly found at the location with a young child, allegedly admitted to buying the lighter fluid and cold packs knowing that Murphy was planning to make meth.
The Department of Children Services was notified and the child was removed from the home.
The two will be in court on July 19.
Bond for Murphy is $25,000 and $15,000 for Cikalo
Meanwhile, Amanda Brooke Washer, 24, was arrested by Smithville police on June 9, and cited by the sheriff’s department on June 13.
Washer is charged with theft of property over $1,000 and aggravated burglary in the June 9 case, and written citations for violation of the seatbelt law, simple possession of marijuana, and simple possession of drug paraphernalia on June 13.
Caplinger said that ,Washer broke into a residence on June 9 and took several items, including jewelry and cash, all valued at over $1,000.
Her bond on the theft case is $10,000 and she will be in court on July 19.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, a drug detective spotted Washer traveling north through the intersection at Highway 56 and 70 on June 13. She allegedly crossed over into the officer’s lane of travel, almost hit his patrol car, and then turned in front of another vehicle.
After being was pulled over, the deputy said Washer gave consent to search, and a needle was found inside her bra, as well as a baggie of marijuana and two non-narcotic pills.
She will be in court June 28 on the citations.
Cheyenne Daniels, 18, was charged with domestic assault recently after a disagreement with a relative.
Caplinger said that a city officer, responding to a South College Street residence to investigate an assault, spoke with Daniels, who said she had come to her aunt's house for the purpose of confronting her.
During the ensuing argument, Daniels allegedly pushed her aunt when she got up out of a chair.
When the aunt raised her arm, Daniels allegedly told the officer that she lost her cool and punched the woman.
Officers determined Daniels was the primary aggressor and placed her under arrest.
Her bond is $2,500 and she will be in court on June 21.
Morris Edward Knowles, 42, was arrested by the sheriff’s department and charged with evading arrest and carrying a prohibited weapon on June 12.
He was also issued a citation for driving on a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The sheriff said that a deputy with prior knowledge that Knowles’ license was revoked saw him driving a red SUV on Highway 70 West.
The officer turned on his blue lights but reportedly had to pursue Knowles for nearly four miles before he stopped.
A computer check confirmed Knowles' license was suspended on May 14.
The deputy also found a syringe in a small box on the front seat of the vehicle.
Knowles reportedly had a knife with a five-inch blade on his side, and told the officer that he carried the knife for his protection.
His bond is $6,500 and he will be in court June 28.
Lynda Neville, 36, was charged with public intoxication by city police, and was issued a citation for possession of a Schedule III controlled substance.
According to the police chief, officers dispatched to Foutch Industries to investigate reports of an intoxicated female spoke with Neville and noticed that her speech was very slurred and she was very unsteady on her feet.
Neville was asked to empty her pockets and allegedly produced a cellophane wrapper containing three pills believed to be hydrocodone.
For her safety and due to the suspicion that she was under the influence at work, she was placed under arrest for public intoxication.
Her bond is $1,000 and she will be in court on June 21.
Jose Juan Velazquez, 32, was arrested by the sheriff’s department and charged with domestic assault on June 16.
According to the sheriff, Velazquez allegedly assaulted his wife on the night of June 15 by hitting her with his fists about the head and body, causing her to have to be transported by ambulance to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Valazquez had already fled with scene with his three-year-old child when officers arrived.
The child was found safely with another family member the next day, and Valazquez was located and arrested.
His bond is $2,500 and he will be in court on June 21.
