DeKalb West School’s 3rd Annual Winter Musical had a cinematic flair this year. Under the direction of music teacher Emily Phillips, students performed “Let’s Go to the Movies” on Dec. 18. Kindergartners sang songs from animated children’s movies. Second-graders performed selections from the “Despicable Me” movies. Fourth-graders explored the music from the Trolls movie while Disney Channel original movies took center stage with the sixth-grade students. For the first time seventh- and eighth-graders joined together to perform a collection of movie song favorites from different decades.

“The students have really taken to the theme this year,” Phillips said prior to the musical. “The students who have been here in the past will be performing for the second time. They are drawing on their past performance and even contributing performance ideas for this year’s show.”
