Early voting begins Feb. 10

Early voting in DeKalb County for the March 1 Presidential Preference Primary is set to begin on Feb. 10 and will continue through Feb. 23.

 

Voting will be held Monday-Saturday except for Feb. 15. The DeKalb County Election Commission Office will be closed that Monday for Presidents Day.

 

Meanwhile, several candidates have picked up petitions to qualify to run in upcoming elections.

 

Among those who have picked up petitions are:

 

• Pam Redmon, who has picked up the paperwork to run for mayor of Dowelltown in August.

 

• Kate Miller- School Board 4th District.

 

• Barry Mabe- School Board 5th District.

 

• W.J. (Dub) Evins- School Board 5th District.

 

• Doug Stephens- School Board 6th district.

 

• Josh Miller- Smithville Alderman.

 

• Danny Washer-Smithville Alderman.

 

• Shawn Jacobs—Smithville Aldermen.

 

• J.D. Bratten- Liberty Alderman (one-year term).

 

• Jason Ray- Liberty Alderman (four-year term).

 

• Eddie Dwayne Blair- Liberty Alderman (four-year term).

 

Petitons are now available to qualify in the races for School Board in the 4th, 5th, and 6th districts, three Smithville alderman seats, mayor and two aldermen in Dowelltown, four aldermen positions in Liberty, and State Representative in the 40th and 46th districts. The qualifying deadline for these races is noon on April 7.

 

Early Voting will be conducted at the election commission office on the first floor of the courthouse during the following hours:

 

• Mondays 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

 

• Tuesdays 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

 

• Wednesdays 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

 

• Thursdays 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

 

• Fridays 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

 

• Saturdays 9 a.m. - noon.

 

A valid state or federal photo Id is required to vote.

 

In Presidential primary news, Secretary of State Hargett has certified the names of presidential candidates for the March 1 presidential preference primary, or "SEC Primary" in Tennessee.

The DeKalb County Democratic Primary will be held in conjunction with the Tennessee Presidential Preference Primary on March 1. Nominees for assessor of property and constable in six of the county’s seven districts will be chosen.

 

Incumbent Assessor of Property Scott Cantrell is unopposed for the Democratic nomination. He will face Republican Shannon A. Cantrell in the August General Election.

 

Democrat Jason C. Taylor is unopposed for Constable in the primary. He will face Republican Lee Plummer in the August General Election.

 

Republican Tom Theriaque will be unopposed for 2nd district Constable in the August General Election.

 

Incumbent Democratic Constables Travis Bryant in the 3rd district, Paul Cantrell in the 4th district, Mark Milam in the 5th district, Carl Lee Webb in the 6th district, and Johnny King in the 7th district will be unopposed in both the March 1 Primary and the August General Election.
