Early voting tops 1,100 in DeKalb

More than 1,100 DeKalb Countians have taken advantage of early voting so far this election season. The first five days of early voting saw 1,139 voters visit the polls at the courthouse.On the first day of early voting last Wednesday, 185 people voted in person and 66 absentee ballots were filled out for a total of 251 votes.The total for Thursday was 322 votes, 308 in person and 14 absentee.On Friday, 206 ballots were cast in person and seven by absentee, for a total of 213.On Saturday, 140 people voted in person, and 10 voters cast absentee ballots.Monday saw 200 people vote in person and three absentees cast, for a total of 203.One Smithville property rights voter cast a ballot in the liquor referendum on Monday as well.Early voting will continue to be held Mondays from noon until 5 p.m.; Tuesdays 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; Wednesdays 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; and Saturdays 9 a.m. until noon until early voting ends on Nov. 1.Election day is Nov. 6.DeKalb County voters will help choose the President of the United States, a U.S. Senator, a 6th District U.S. Representative and State Representatives for the 40th and 46th Districts.Voters in the City of Smithville will also decide whether vendors would be allowed to sell spirits inside the city limits.
