Eight days remain before the deadline to qualify to run for local offices, and the roster of candidates is filling up quickly. The deadline is noon Feb. 20.
Democratic Party candidates will first appear on the ballot during the May 6 Primary.
Republicans were nominated by the party, and will run against the winners of the Democratic primary, as well as any independent candidates in the Aug. 7 County General Election.
Candidates seeking school board seats are elected on a non-partisan basis, and have until noon on April 3 to qualify to run in the August 7 general election.
Municipal Elections in Smithville and Dowelltown will also be held in conjunction with the August 7 general election. The mayor’s office and two aldermenic seats will be decided in Smithville, while voters in Dowelltown will chose three aldermen. The qualifying deadline for those elections is noon April 3 as well.
Candidates for sheriff include Republican nominee Patrick Ray, Democrat Michael J. Agee, and Democrat Larry Flair, Sr.
County mayor candidates include Democrat Tim Stribling, independent candidate Chris Bratcher, II and Republican nominee Chris Smithson.
Seeking the office of county clerk are Democratic incumbent Michael Clayborn, Democrat James L. (Jimmy) Poss, and independent candidate Daniel Critser.
General sessions judge candidates include Democrat Bratten H. Cook, Democrat Margie Miller, and Republican Nominee Mingy Bryant.
Seeking the office of road supervisor are Democrat James (Jimmy) Sprague and Republican Nominee Butch Agee. Democrat Shane Walker was issued a petition and announced his intention to run for the seat, but his application was denied by the Tennessee Highway Officials Certification Board, and he will apparently not be allowed to run.
Democratic incumbent Katherine Pack has filed a petition to seek re-election to the office of circuit court clerk.
Democratic incumbent Jeffrey McMillen will again seek the register of deeds seat.
Republican incumbent Sean Driver will seek re-election to the trustee’s office.
Democrats Bennett Armstrong, Kenneth Clayborn and incumbent Democrat Elmer Lee Ellis, along with Republican incumbent Mason Carter will run for a 1st District county commissioner’s seat.
In the 2nd District county commissioner race, Democrats Jerry Hutchins and Clarence Trapp and Republican incumbent Bobby Joines will seek the popular vote.
Former 2nd District Democrat County Commissioner Jack Barton, incumbent Democrat Bradley Hendrix and incumbent Democrat Jerry Scott will vie for 3rd District commission seats.
Incumbent Democrats Charles Wayne Cantrell and David L. McDowell, along with three more Democrats, Bobby R. Taylor, Jonathan Norris and Tony Poss are seeking 4th District county commission seats.
Democrat Anita Puckett, as well as incumbent Democrat Rick Cantrell and incumbent Republican nominee Jerry Adcock will seek 5th District commission seats.
Incumbent Democrats Jeffery Barnes and Marshall Ferrell Democrat Betty Jean Atnip and independent candidate Danny L. McGinnis are running for 6th district commissioner positions.
Incumbent Democrat Larry Summers and Democrat Kevin E. Robinson areseeking 7th District commission seats.
There are two county commission seats for each of the seven districts.
In constable races, Democrat Benjamin C. Curtis and Republican Nominee Lee Plummer are seeking the 1st District office.
Republican Nominee Chris Tramel and independent candidates Tony D. Lawson and Jonathan Low will run for the 2nd District job.
Independent candidates Travis Bryant and Lou Ann Sanders will seek the 3rd District constable’s seat.
In the 1st District school board race, Matthew Boss and Danny Parkerson have been issued petitions.
Incumbent Charles Robinson has been issued a petition to seek the 2nd District school-board seat.
Jonathan Willoughby has been issued a petition for the 3rd district school-board race.
Incumbent Johnny Lattimore has been issued a petition to run for the 7th school board seat.
Republican Jennifer Winfree will run for state executive committee chairwoman in the state primary in August
Gayla Hendrix has been issued a petition to qualify to run for alderman in the City of Smithville
Ronald Griffith, Keith Farler and Brad Driver have been issued petitions to qualify to run for alderman in the City of Dowelltown.
