Alton David Estes of Watertown, the man recently charged with the theft of three air-vending machines by the sheriff’s department, is now accused of illegally taking three more machines in the Smithville city limits.
The sheriff’s department recently arrested Estes, 46, on charges that he took three of the same type machines, one from Shiney Rock Market and one from Liberty Citgo on July 1, and one September 9, 2013 at Hillcrest Market on Sept 9.
Smithville Police now report that Estes has been charged with three counts of theft over $1,000 in connection with three more coin-operated air-vending machines reportedly taken from the parking lots of a local BP Station on April 13 and Sept. 14, and at Jewel's Market on Aug. 25.
He allegedly took the machines, valued at more than $1,000 each, by breaking loose the bolts they were secured with.
His bond was set at $15,000.
Meanwhile, two employees at the Smithville Walmart face theft of property charges.
According to city police, Josie Culwell was charged after police were dispatched to the store to investigate a report that an employee had stolen items from the business. The officer allegedly spoke with an associate of Walmart who told him that Culwell, an employee, had taken several items during the last three months of her employment.
Culwell reportedly admitted to taking merchandise with a total value of $668.
James A. McKeown was charged after police were called to the retail outlet on another theft call. An officer allegedly spoke with an associate of the store, who told him that McKeown had taken several items from Walmart during his employment.
McKeown allegedly admitted to taking the items.
Sandra Clark, 32, and Deanna Pedigo, 31, were both charged with aggravated assault and vandalism under $500 recently.
Police responding to reports of an assault on two women at the park on Smith Road said that Pedigo drove up to the park and blocked the victim’s vehicle in. Clark allegedly exited the passenger side of Pedigo's vehicle with a large stick and broke out a window of the victim's vehicle, then assaulted the two women inside with the stick, as well as pepper spray.
The victims were taken to the emergency room at DeKalb Community Hospital for treatment.
Ricky C. Stanley, 29, was recently cited for simple possession of a Schedule II drug.
An officer responding to reports of a disturbance at Walmart allegedly made contact with Stanley. A search reportedly revealed two pills believed to be Hydrocodone on Stanley’s person.
Terry Dean Winfree, 43 was recently charged with driving under the influence and cited for simple possession of a Schedule II drug.
Police dispatched to the BP Station on West Broad Street regarding a person who was allegedly passed out behind the steering wheel of a vehicle reportedly found Winfree.
Officers said he appeared to be very disoriented, was unsteady on his feet, and submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks. A search allegedly turned up a plastic wrapper containing a white powdery substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine inside a cigarette pack.
Jared Atnip faces charges of public intoxication.
Police were dispatched to Pizza Hut to check on a man inside the restaurant in an intoxicated state. Upon arrival an officer spoke with Atnip. His speech was reportedly slurred and slow, and he had trouble keeping his eyes open.
Police said Atnip admitted to taking medication earlier in the day.
Daniel Hamilton, 23, was recently charged with domestic assault.
Police responding to a domestic violence call on Hayes Street reportedly found Hamilton and his girlfriend, who is the mother of his child.
He had allegedly hit her in the face, leaving marks and abrasions under her left eye and marks on her chest. She said Hamilton had pinched her about the body. He was placed under arrest.
Chad Taylor, 21, was recently charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
An officer dispatched to the BP Station on West Broad for a reported hit-and-run accident said he talked to the other party involved in the accident, who gave a description of the vehicle which fled the scene. The automobile was later located at City Walk Apartments.
When confronted, Taylor allegedly admitted to leaving the scene of the accident.
Tracy Haynes, 43, was recently charged with evading arrest.
An officer doing a welfare check on Frazier Street spoke with Haynes, who had outstanding warrants against him. When Haynes was advised of the warrants, he allegedly fled on foot.
When he failed to obey verbal commands to stop, the officer deployed his taser, and Haynes was placed under arrest.
James Gilles, 26, was recently charged with domestic assault.
Police called to break up a fight on Bell Street spoke with Gilles, who said he and his brother had gotten into an altercation on Cookeville Highway, but the fight turned physical after they got out of their vehicle on Bell Street. The officer spoke with the victim, who allegedly said Gilles grabbed him from the back and choked him until he was almost unconscious.
Robert R. Claude was recently charged with public intoxication. Police were dispatched to the hospital to help subdue a combative, intoxicated patient. Hospital employees tried to restrain him while police were enroute. Claude was arrested and brought to police department.
Justin Hale Davenport, 21, was recently charged with domestic assault.
Police responding to a call at the Discount Tobacco store on West Broad Street spoke with witnesses who reported that Davenport had assaulted a woman there, hitting her in the face. The victim appeared to have redness and swelling around her eye.
Linda A. Sorrell, 55 was recently cited for shoplifting.
A store employee at Walmart allegedly spotted Sorrell concealing items in her purse. She was confronted at the doorway as she was leaving.
Sorrell was allegedly found to have several items in her purse. Police said she admitted to taking the items.
Elizabeth C. Gardenhire, 41, and 47-year-old Sherry R. Schreyer were each cited for shoplifting at the Dollar General Store recently.
City police said Gardenhire was seen concealing items in her purse by store management. Schreyer was also found to be in possession of several items which had not been purchased.
