A Sunday evening collision with a utility pole left an entire family shaken, but apparently not seriously injured. According to Trooper Gerald Carter of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 28-year-old Tosha L. Whitson was traveling east on Old Snow Hill Road near Possum Hollow Road when she lost control of her 2004 Chevy Tracker, skidded sideways, and left the roadway on the right side. The SUV struck a utility pole before coming to a stop. Her husband, Michael Whitson, 27, and their children, eight year old Candace, 8, and Michael Jr., 3, were passengers in the vehicle. All four family members were transported to DeKalb Community Hospital by private vehicle. The trooper said Mrs. Whitson told him that she was almost out of fuel so she put the vehicle in neutral to coast. When she attempted to return the transmission to drive, she said she accidentally shifted to reverse, and lost control of the vehicle. She was cited for failure to exercise due care and for not having the eight-year-old child in a booster seat. Members of the sheriff's department and DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
