Farless killed in I-40 crash

A Smithville man was killed Thursday morning when the vehicle in which he was a passenger ran into a tractor-trailer on I-40.Johnny Ray Farless, 19, died in the accident, and 21-year-old Amanda Price of Liberty and 19-year-old Zachary Barlow of Lebanon were injured when a 2009 Hyundai, driven by Price, slammed into the back of the truck in Smith County.The accident occurred at just after 2 a.m.According to the accident report, Price was traveling east on I-40 near the 252-mile marker when she fell asleep and ran into the back of a parked tractor trailer.The driver of the truck, 44-year-old Alvin Walker of Olive Branch, Mississippi, was reportedly parked on the side of the roadway near a rest area, napping in the sleeper of the truck at when the collision took place.Walker was not injured.None of the occupants of the Hyundai were wearing a seatbelt, according to the THP.Farless was preceded in death by his father, Waylon Farless and grandparents, Rose and Larry Cobble.The family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in lieu of flowers.
