According to a recent Department of Labor and Workforce Development press release, continuing layoffs at the Federal-Mogul facility in Smithville will soon leave 50 more workers unemployed. The company is proceeding with the second round of layoffs in as many years at the local plant.The release revealed that Federal-Mogul has notified the department that they would begin laying of the 50 employees on March 14 and continue through April 30.The statement said the employees are not represented by a collective bargaining agreement.In the first round of layoffs in 2012, nearly 200 employees at the Smithville location were released, with most of the jobs going to a Federal-Mogul location in Mexico. The company said the changes were a cost-reducing measure.Federal-Mogul Corporation is a $6.8 billion global supplier of products to manufacturers of automotive, light commercial, heavy-duty and off-highway vehicles, as well as in power generation, aerospace, marine, rail and industrial.
