A fire destroyed the home of James and Becky Nokes at 677 Dry Creek Road in Dowelltown Saturday night.

According to DeKalb County Fire Chief Donny Green, the fire began about 9 p.m. in the basement of the home, then quickly spread to engulf the entire structure. Residents of the home were able to get to safety without injury, but lost everything but a few personal items to the flames.

The cause of the conflagration is under investigation, but the fire is believed to have started in a breaker box. Members of the Liberty, Temperance Hall, and Main Fire Stations responded to the scene, as well as DeKalb EMS, and members of the sheriff’s department.
