Authorities are investigating a possible arson case after DeKalb County firefighters responded to a suspicious trailer fire off of Jefferson Road last Saturday afternoon.

According to Assistant Fire Chief David Agee, at 4:56 PM firefighters were dispatched to a trailer park on South Judkins Lane. Main Station Engine 59, Short Mountain Engine 62, and Belk Engine 66 responded to the scene, along with deputies with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and a unit with DeKalb EMS.

Upon arrival, authorities say they found rental trailer number three, the home of Britta Rollins, with a blaze emanating from underneath the residence. The trailer was the rental property of Alfredo Villa, and the fire had breached the floor and had traveled into the walls of the end bedroom of the structure.

Rollins was not at home at the time of the fire.

Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames, and contain the fire before it could spread to other parts of the home. Authorities say they worked to clear smoke from the building, but the trailer suffered moderate smoke damage.

Detectives were called to the scene after firefighters suspected a possible arson case. Authorities say that due to the location of the blaze, and that a possible accelerate was used to start the fire, the case was turned over to the Sheriff’s Department. The case remains under investigation.
