City police have three of four people named in Grand Jury sealed indictments in custody on charges that they kidnapped and raped a woman, allegedly because they thought she had stolen money and drugs from them.
Police said Savanah Arnold, Abigail Vogel and Johnny Devault , who have been arrested, and another unidentified woman, who had not been arrested at press time, were all indicted on charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape, and theft under $500.
The four allegedly held the victim against her will at Arnold's home on October 24. Police allege that Arnold and another woman strip searched the victim and penetrated her while looking for the missing money and drugs, then stole her clothes. The victim reportedly went to the police department on Oct. 25 to report the incident.
Meanwhile, police said Arnold dressed in the victim's clothing on Oct. 25, traveled to her place of employment, and tried to pick up her paycheck.
According to authorities, the victim said she went to Arnold's house to watch a friend’s children. Arnold, Vogel, Devault, and the third woman allegedly came into the residence high on drugs and accused her of stealing $575 and 60 Suboxone strips from Arnold. The victim reportedly denied the theft.
According to police, Arnold and the other woman took the victim to a back room and strip-searched her, with one of the suspects placing a trash bag on her hand and penetrating the victim. The suspects reportedly refused to let her leave ,and took her cell phone so she could not call for help.
Devault allegedly threatened to assault the victim if she continued to resist. She was allegedly dropped on the side of the road with very little clothing after the incident.
When Arnold allegedly dressed in the victim's tried to pick up her paycheck the next day, police said she walked up to the counter wearing the victim's ID and asked for her paycheck, representing herself as the victim. When it became apparent that other employees of the business knew that she was not the victim, she allegedly changed her story, saying that the victim was in a Nashville hospital.
Arnold reportedly left after being told that the victim would have to pick up the check personally.
A woman reportedly called the business soon afterward, identified herself as the victim, and said it was okay for them to give her paycheck to whoever came to pick it up.
Smithville Police were notified by the employer, and Lieutenant Matt Holmes and Officer James Cornelius responded. Arnold was taken into custody at the industry and charged with identify theft.
In other news from the police department, Stacy Dawn Lannom, 42, of Lebanon, has been charged with theft over $10,000 for allegedly using a business credit card to pay personal bills over a ten-month period.
Lannom, who works for a Watertown accounting firm, is accused of using the business card on numerous occasions between January and November.
Her bond was set at $10,000, and she will appear in court on Jan. 9.
Nathan Theodore Harmon, 21, has been charged with burglary and theft over $500.
Harmon and a juvenile allegedly broke into a building on South College Street on Nov. 25 and took a large tool box and air conditioning duct work valued at $550. The items were reportedly sold to a recycler.
His bond was set at $5,000 and he will appear in court on Jan. 9.
Chrissy Evans, 40, was cited for shoplifting at Walmart on Dec. 1.
A store employee told police that Evans was suspected of putting items in her purse. After she paid for some things, Evans was stopped. She produced several items she had not paid for in the amount of $149.50.
Joshua Ledale, 25, was cited for possession of Schedule IV and VI drugs on Dec. 3.
An officer responding to a fight call on Dec. 3, allegedly found a small bag of a green leafy substance that Ledale had thrown on the ground. After requesting and receiving consent to search, the officer reportedly found a small plastic wrapper on Ledale's person which contained a pill believed to be Xanax.
He will appear in court on Jan. 14.
James Scott Hall, 38, was cited for speeding and charged with a second offense of driving on a revoked license. Chief Caplinger said Hall was operating a motor vehicle when he was stopped for speeding. While he produced an ID, a check reportedly revealed his license to be revoked for a DUI.
His bond was set at $3,000, and he will appear in court on Jan. 8.
Rhonda Williams, 32, was cited for shoplifting at the Dollar General Store on Dec. 9.
An officer dispatched to the store was reportedly told that Williams was seen putting items in her purse. She was stopped outside the store, where she allegedly produced the stolen items from her purse.
Lynda Neville, 37 was cited for theft of merchandise at Walmart on Dec. 11.
An officer was informed by a loss prevention employee that Neville had been seen placing items in her purse. The officer made contact with Neville, who allegedly admitted to taking several items from the store.
Jayme Denise Hendrixson, 33, was also cited for shoplifting at Walmart.
Hendrixson was allegedly seen concealing items from the store in her shirt sleeves, pockets, and purse. Items from the store were reportedly found in her jacket.
