Four pick up alderman petitions

The Smithville Aldermanic race is taking shape, with four people picking up qualifying petitions for the June contest.Incumbent Aldermen Gayla Hendrix, Danny Washer and Shawn Jacobs have both picked up their paperwork, as has Anthony Scott of Riley Avenue.Scott told this reporter in a phone conversation Monday night that he is reviewing his petition, and has not made up his mind whether to run for the seat at this time. He also declined to provide a picture for this article.Hendrix was elected to her first term as alderman in 2011, as was Washer.Jacobs has served in the seat since 2008, and Scott will vie for his first term in the position, if he decides to run.Smithville residents will choose three aldermen in the city election to be held on June 18.Petitions to run for the open alderman seats can be picked up at the election commission office in the basement of the courthouse.The deadline to turn in qualifying petitions for the city election is set for noon on March 21.
