Though not in DeKalb County, a Remote Area Medical Free Clinic will be held in a neighboring county and is open to anyone in need of the services to be provided. The free clinic is scheduled for March 18-19, 2017 at Cookeville High School beginning at 6 a.m. each day.

RAM offers basic services that may include:

Dental – cleaning, filings and extractions

Vision – complete dilated eye exams, testing for glaucoma, testing for diabetic retinopathy, glasses made on site

Medical – general medicine

Prevention – breast exams, diabetes screening, physicals, and women’s health

Education – educational resources and information are provided through out service areas

Due to time constraints and large participation, be prepared to choose between dental and vision services. All patients will have the option of receiving dental and medical or vision and medical care but not dental and vision care on the same day.

To enter the clinic you will need a number, and to receive a number you will need to be present when they are provided. The numbers will be handed out at the clinic location at 3 a.m. each morning. Because the services are free and resources are limited, you must physically be present during the time of the number distribution.

The parking lot of the clinic site will open at midnight. The earlier you come, the better chance you have at seeing a doctor.

You are not required to bring anything with you. They will not ask for proof of residency or proof of income.

Do bring all of the medications that you take every day, and take them as you normally do.

Because you will likely wait outside of the clinic site until the clinic begins, it is important to check weather conditions and prepare accordingly.
