The sheriff’s department has arrested a 20-year-old Dowelltown man and charged him with two counts of statutory rape for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old girl.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Nathan Joseph Gohs had sex with a 16-year-old girl twice at a residence on Students Home Road in June and July. The girl is apparently pregnant.
Gohs bond was set at $20,000, and he will appear in court on July 14.
Meanwhile, Clay Andrew Bain, 24, was charged with evading arrest, aggravated assault, and resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest, or search on June 24. He was also served with warrants for violation of an order of protection and violation of probation.
The sheriff said that Bain rammed another car with his vehicle, forcing it off the roadway into a ditch, and putting the driver in danger of serious bodily injury. When a deputy arrived at the scene, Bain was allegedly irate and attempting to fight the other driver. The officer reportedly ordered Bain to get back into his vehicle and turn the engine off. Bain allegedly drove away from the scene.
He was later served with a warrant for intentionally coming around a woman who has an active order of protection against him on June 24.
His bond totals $19,500, and he is being held without bond for violation of probation. He will appear in court on July 14.
Joshua Lynn McCowan, 31, was charged with theft of property under $500 on May 10.
Ray said that McCowan took a blank check belonging to a woman on Potts Camp Road, then allegedly passed the check in the amount of $250.
His bond was set at $2,500, and he will appear in court on July 21.
Brandon Thomas Bates, 25, of Liberty was charged with criminal impersonation on July 3.
The sheriff said a deputy responded to Redmon Road to locate a missing juvenile. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to Bates, who identified himself as Dustin Warner and said he owned the property at 202 Redmon Road. But the deputy, who knows Warner, was aware that Bates was lying to him.
His bond was set at $3,500, and he will appear in court on July 14.
