The GOP in DeKalb County will meet on Jan. 11 to choose delegates to the DeKalb County Republican Convention, set for Jan. 18. The Republican Party Mass Meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on the first floor of the Courthouse.
The Republican Convention will take place at the same location, also at 10 a.m. Local GOP hopefuls will have the chance to formally announce their intention to run for office in 2014.
Six local offices are currently held by Republicans; Sheriff Patrick Ray, Trustee Sean Driver, Road Supervisor Kenny Edge, First District County Commissioner Mason Carter, Second District County Commissioner Bobby Joines, and Fifth District County Commissioner Jerry Adcock.
Edge has made it clear that he will not be a candidate for road supervisor again, but a Republican candidate is expected to seek the office.
Candidates for county offices nominated at the GOP convention will face qualifying Democratic and or Independent candidates in the August General Election. The Democratic Primary in DeKalb is set for May 6.
A primary to nominate candidates for both Democrats and Republicans in the 13th District judicial race will also be held on May 6.
The deadline to qualify for the May 6 primaries is at noon on Feb. 20.
