Hale takes top city fire award

Deputy Chief Hoyte Hale received the "Highest Attendance Award" at the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department’s annual banquet Saturday night.

 

The award was presented by Smithville Fire Chief Charlie Parker presented the award, which Hale won for the third straight year. Hale attended 148 of 175 calls in 2016. Criteria for the award includes calls, training, and workings. Hale is in his 32nd year with the department.

 

Nipping at Hale’s heels in calls attended were Lieutenant Donnie Cantrell with 139, Lieutenant John Poss with 125, Lieutenant Danny Poss with 116 and Lieutenant Kevin Adcock with 95.

 

Seth Wright and Garrett Johnson, two rookie firefighters, tied for the most documented training hours among non-officer firefighters in 2016. Wright and Johnson, who were also sworn in at the banquet[RV1] , put in 125.5 hours each training last year.
