A local man faces charges after allegedly stealing two credit cards and using them numerous times to withdraw funds from the victim’s accounts.

Jeff Mark Hatfield, 26, has been charged with 15 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.

Hatfield allegedly took an RIA Federal Credit Union card from a victim on Sept. 30, and used the card to withdraw $122.95 from the person’s account at an ATM in Smithville. On the same day, he allegedly withdrew another $202.95.

The sheriff said Hatfield withdrew $102.95, including fees, then took an additional $162.50 and $202.50, in separate transactions, from the victim’s account on Oct. 1. On Oct. 2, Hatfield allegedly took $82.50, $182.50, and $162.50 from the account.

Then, on Oct. 3, Ray said Hatfield took $142.50 and $182.50 from the account, and another $102.50 on Oct. 4.

Hatfield allegedly took a Regions Bank card from the same victim on Oct. 5, withdrawing $100 and $102. He reportedly used the RIA card to withdraw $23.50 on Oct. 5 as well, and withdrew $130 with the Regions card on Oct. 6.

The case was investigated by a sheriff’s department detective.

Hatfield’s bonds total $37,500, and he will appear in court on Nov. 17.

Meanwhile, two juvenile boys, 15 and 17, runaways from the New Frontiers Boys Home were taken into custody after a series of break-ins on Oct. 17.

Ray said the sheriff’s department received a report from a Hannah Branch Road resident on Oct. 17 who said that it appeared someone had tried to steal a vehicle. A bag of chewing tobacco was allegedly taken from the vehicle.

Later on that day a call came in from Wolf Creek Road that a man had caught two boys attempting to steal his four-wheeler. Deputies responded and found the two juveniles, and after questioning them, concluded that they were the two runaways, who had been missing since the night before.

One of the boys was found with a bag of the same brand of chewing tobacco that was taken from the vehicle on Hannah Branch. The boys allegedly admitted to the two crimes, as well as a break in at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Lower Helton Road. Food and water was taken from the church, and damage was done to the building during the incident. The four-wheeler and vehicle suffered damage as well.

“They are in state’s custody at this time,” the sheriff said.
