A man with a fuzzy memory about how he came into possession of a stolen truck has been sentenced to two years in prison.

The man, Shannon Ray Herman, 33, of Smithville entered a guilty plea in circuit court to the charge of theft of property over $1,000 and was directed to serve two years in the state penitentiary. The term is to run concurrently, meaning at the same time, with another DeKalb County sentence he is serving.

Herman was arrested this past September when he was found in possession of a stolen 1987 Dodge pickup truck that had been stolen in Smith County on Sunday one week prior. While admitting the obvious, that he had the truck, Herman was tight-lipped about how he had gotten ahold of the stolen 1987 Dodge.

“When questioned about the vehicle, Herman admitted to the deputy to having possession of the truck but he wouldn’t say where he got it,” Sheriff Patrick Ray revealed.

Herman has been credited for the five months he has already spent in jail.
