A New York based home for children who have been victims of abuse, neglect or crisis has reportedly submitted an offer to purchase the Lakeside Resort lease from the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA).
The offer, submitted by Timothy Hill Children’s Ranch, of Riverhead New York, was presented by letter to the UCHRA's real estate committee during a recent meeting in Cookeville. The offer consists of an initial payment of $50,000, and monthly payments of $5,000 for 13 years, beginning in June 2015, and contingent upon UCHRA renegotiating the lease with the US Army Corps of Engineers until the year 2050.
The purchase price would total $830,000, well below the UCHRA’s reduced asking price of $999,999. If any agreement is reached, UCHRA would still be required to pay off its loan debt through Rural Development, which stands at $1.4 million.
The fact that the UCHRA’s agreement with the Corps is a parks and recreation lease, and the facility can’t be used for residential purposes, could derail the talks, however. The committee is set to meet again on May 19 at 9 a.m. in Cookeville to review proposals and come to a decision.
