A local couple has been arrested and accused of burglarizing a houseboat at Pates Ford Marina.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that Ricky Lane Evans, 46, and 37-year-old Sherry May Evans face charges of theft of property over $10,000. According to the sheriff, both Ricky and Sherry Evans took items from a houseboat at Pates Ford Marina on Sept. 17.

The alleged stolen goods included several silver coins, a Kel-Tec nine millimeter rifle, a Smith & Wesson .380 caliber handgun, a Winchester .410 shotgun, clothing, jewelry, a spotlight, candles and other items. The owner of the houseboat discovered the theft and reported it.

The case was investigated by a detective and deputies of the sheriff’s department. Some of the stolen weapons and other items have been recovered. Ray said that some of the silver coins and jewelry were recovered in a purse belonging to Sherry Evans.

Bond for each was set at $10,000, and they both appear in court on Oct. 6.

Meanwhile, Jackie Mark Mullican, 54, was charged with carrying or possession of a weapon by a felon on Sept. 12.

The sheriff said that while a sheriff’s department detective was conducting a probation search on Mullican, the detective found a silver Jennings .380 caliber handgun with an altered serial number in his right pants pocket.

A computer check revealed that the gun had been stolen and entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) by the Smithville Police Department.

A criminal history was also conducted which showed that Mullican is a DeKalb County convicted felon charged in a 2008 Schedule II drug offense.

His bond was set at $7,500, and his court date is Sept. 29.

Bradley Don Crook, 36, of Liberty was charged with domestic assault on Sept. 16.

Ray said a deputy responding to a residence on Tubb Street to investigate reports of a domestic assault in progress spoke with Crook and a female. The woman reportedly told the lawman that while she and Crook were arguing he stood up and smacked her on the left side of the face.

Crook was allegedly very uncooperative with the deputy, and was determined to have been the primary aggressor. He was placed under arrest.

His bond was set at $2,500, and he will appear in court on Oct. 6.

Taren Renee Pilley, 34, was charged with being a fugitive from justice on Sept. 17.

The sheriff said a deputy responding to a residence on Yolanda Hills Drive after receiving a 911 call of someone possibly being held hostage there spoke with Pilley. A computer check revealed that she had an active warrant against her from Butler County, Ohio.

She was placed under arrest, and Ohio authorities have agreed to extradite her.

Her bond was set at $75,000, and she will appear in court on Sept. 29.

Daniel Ray Wilson, 32, was charged with aggravated assault on sept. 14.

Ray said that Wilson assaulted a woman by pulling her hair, striking her in the face with his fist, and trying to strangle her. Due to the assault, the woman allegedly suffered injuries to her face and red marks on her throat.

His bond was set at $5,000, and he will appear in court on Sept. 29.
