According to County Mayor Mike Foster, the DeKalb County complex has a full schedule of events for the next few weeks, including a ballet, Jr. Pro basketball, and an employer forum and industry appreciation day designed to reach out to employers and provide information to foster economic development.
Foster announced Monday night at the regular meeting of the county commission that the employer forum, scheduled for Dec. 11, will begin registration at 11:30 a.m., the luncheon and program will start at noon in the auditorium and end around 1:30 p.m.
The luncheon will be courtesy of Goggin Warehousing and a presentation by Assistant Commissioner of Business Development Kingsley Brock of the state Department of Economic and Community Development will be the highlight of the forum, hosted by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Workforce Employee Outreach Committee. Brock, who has been the state's lead project manager on a number of significant projects that ended up locating in Tennessee, will share the inner workings of the process with attendees.
Business owners, plant managers, recruiting or staffing managers and elected officials are urged to attend. Meanwhile, the Dance Theatre of Tennessee will conclude a six-city, five-county performance tour of the timeless holiday classic “The Nutcracker” at the complex on Dec. 20.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. for a special treat in the lobby with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and some other important guests.
There will be drinks and goodies available as well. The show will start at 7 p.m.
Meet and greet with the dancers will follow the show, and while no filming or photography will be allowed during the performance, pictures may taken before and after the show.
Ticket prices are $12 per child and $18 per adult, and according to the mayor, only about 40 adult tickets remained to be sold as of Monday night. Tickets can be purchased at the community center at 712 S. Congress Blvd. For more information call 615-440-3614.
The schedule will be rounded out with various Christmas parties, baby showers and birthday celebrations, Cub Scout meetings, as well as a busy day on Dec. 1, with the Review's annual Christmas Bazaar from 8a.m.-3p.m., and the Project Graduation pancake breakfast from 8-10 a.m. and a Christmas Program by Elizabeth's Chapel Baptist Church at 6 p.m.
Fans of Jr. Pro basketball can find games in the gymnasium on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings.
