Intersection to get caution lights

The collision-plagued intersection at Highway 70 and New Home Road is one step closer to receiving caution lights.
At the commission meeting last week, County Mayor Mike Foster said that the problem at the intersection has been a perplexing one, as many of the companies contacted about the job were not willing to perform the task.
“ This has been a long, long time coming,” Foster said. “I don’t know that I’ve ever dealt with anything exactly like this. We have had engineers say that they were coming to look at it, then they wouldn’t. We’ve had engineers come look at it and say that they wouldn’t do the job.”
Stansell Electric has now evaluated the intersection and made suggestions for the caution lighting.
“ We did get Stansell Electric to come and look at it,” Foster told the assembly,  “and since we could never get another opinion, we’ve based the bids on what they thought we needed to do.”
The tentative plan calls for two yellow, flashing caution lights on Highway 70 and two red, flashing lights on New Home Road and Highway 83.
The plan also calls for two “Stop Ahead” signs to be placed on Highway 83 and New Home Road.
Bids for the project were opened on Oct. 3
