Jail meets requirements for certification

The DeKalb County Jail and Jail Annex have met minimum standards for certification for 2014.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said the Tennessee Corrections Institute (TCI) recently performed an inspection of the DeKalb County Jail and the DeKalb County Jail Annex. In a letter from Beth Ashe, who is the executive director of the TCI, Ray said the jail staff was commended for the state of the facility.

"The inspection revealed that this facility meets all applicable minimum standards. This status shall be reported to the Board of Control at its next meeting. After approval from the Board of Control, you will receive a Certificate of Certification. You are to be congratulated for attaining this degree of professionalism in your organization," the letter read.

Ray said the jail was in overall good condition. "We are not overcrowded," the sheriff shared. "The facility was in good repair. We were commended for performing hourly security checks and documenting them. The kitchen was found to be clean and in good working order. The 14 day physicals are well within standards."

Detention Facility Specialist Joe Ferguson wrote: "I inspected the DeKalb County Jail and Annex. Sheriff Ray and staff are to be commended on the cleanliness and professionalism of the facility. With no deficiencies found, I recommend continued certification for 2014".
