The Smithville Fiddler's Jamboree and Crafts Festival is set for the first weekend of next month, July 1 & 2.
The event will mark its fortieth anniversary this year.
Jack Barton will tackle his third year as Fiddler's Jamboree Coordinator.
The Jamboree will, as always, feature diverse food and drink selections for sale at locally sponsored food booths, crafts and creations all around the downtown area, old fashioned bluegrass music and dancing on stage, and lots of impropmtu picking and grinning around the courthouse square.
Last year’s Grand Champion Fiddler Bill J. Birchfield of Roan Mountain, Tennessee.
Birchfield took first place in the Senior Fiddling contest, and won the Berry C. Williams Memorial Award by beating Will McMeans of Lester, Alabama, the winner of the Junior Fiddling (ages 13-39) competition.
Second place in Junior Fiddle was earned by Matt Kinman of Vilas, North Carolina, and third place went to Gailanne Amundsen of Longwood Florida.
Amundsen was the 2009 grand champion fiddler and winner of the Junior Fiddle competition.
Kelsey Jones of Lyles took first place in Junior Old-Time Appalachian Flatfoot Dance (ages up to 39).
Second place went to Justin Frazor of Smyrna, and Chris Stewart of Lyles placed third.
First place in the Senior Old-Time Appalachian Flatfoot Dance competition (ages 40 and & over) went to Jeff Yates of Adams. Jay Bland of Kennesaw, Georgia took second, and third place was taken by Tammy Scruggs of Hartsville.
In the Senior Buck Dancing (ages 40 and over), the first place award went home with Stanley Reece of Whitleyville, Wendell Hodges of Scottsville, Kentucky earned second place, and third place went to Danny Campbell of Murfreesboro.
Tammy Scruggs of Hartsville took first place in the Senior Clogging category (ages 40 and over).
Second Place was taken by Sherry Guenther of Monterey, and Tommy Jackson of Franklin took third.
In the Bluegrass Banjo division, first place honors went to Jeremy Stephens of Danville, Virginia, second place was taken by Kevin Harris of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and Third Place- Shane Cothran of Franklin was the third-place winner.
First place in Bluegrass Band went to A Step Ahead of Greenbrier in 2010.
Second place was taken by DeKalb County Bluegrass of Dyersburg, and The Rigney Family of Normandy came in third.
Bluegrass Fiddle Will McMeans took the Neil Dudney Award in the Bluehrass Fiddle division, besting second place winner Sarah Twilley of Murfreesboro and Chris Brown of Beechgrove, who placed third.
The award was presented by Dudney's daughters Susan Shaw and Janet England.
In the Senior Fiddlers category ( Ages 40 & Over), First Place- Bill J. Birchfield of Roan Mountain took first-place honors, the second place winner was Scott Miller of Hanceville, Alabama, and third place went to Delmer Holland of Waverly.
Square Dancing: First place in Square Dancing was taken by Harpeth River of Franklin, second place went to Little Texas, also of Franklin, and the Tennessee Toe Tappers of Pleasant View were judged third.
