Get ready to bundle up, load the family in the car and attend Christmas on the Square and the Downtown Renovation Celebration on Thursday, Nov. 29. The event, held by the Chamber of Commerce, will start at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m.
Enjoy the Community Chorus’ performance from 5 p.m. on the west wing of the courthouse. Boy Scout Troop #347 will conduct a flag-raising ceremony at 5:25 p.m. You’ll be able to enjoy more music from the Community Chorus after the tree-lighting ceremony to be held at 5:30 p.m.
Stop in at the courthouse where they will be having open house and offering refreshments. While there, be sure to visit the new Chamber office in room 201.
The City of Smithville will provide a free photo booth and Christmas D.J. Music inside the east entrance of the courthouse.
Take a walk around downtown, visit all businesses and see all of the new improvements made to the buildings, inside and out. Stores will be open late offering special discounts to get your holiday shopping underway.
Weather permitting, there will also be inflatables and train rides for the children.
Children’s book author and illustrator Shan Burklow will read to the children at Justin Potter Library at 6 p.m. Children will have a chance to win lots of great prizes, as well as enjoy a special visit by a very jolly guy in a red suit. While in this part of downtown, notice the progress on the new open-air stage just across the street.
