The Lady Saints continued conference play this week with Overton Co. on Tuesday, September 6 and Cornerstone on Friday, September 9.
The Overton Co. Wildcats came to town with a perfect record in conference play. Although the Lady Saints knew they had their work cut out for them, they came to play.
After several impressive stops by Lady Saints’ goal tender Kelbi Young, the first half ended scoreless. Within the first ten minutes of the second half Overton County scored on outside shot, making the score 1-0.
Overton would tally another late goal making the final score 2-0 in favor of the visiting team. Although a loss, the Lady Saints played one of their best games of the season against the number one seed. Lady Saints JV would go on to lose as well, 1-0.
Young recorded an incredible 20 saves in the game.
On Friday, the Lady Saints made the short trip to Baxter to face conference foe the Upperman Bees.
After a defensive miscue, the Lady Saints found themselves in an early hole 1-0. The Lady Saints then started to work well on offense, with Sadie Driver scoring two quick goals to end the first half 2-1.
The Lady Saints tallied another one late in the second half and won the match 3-1. Lady Saints JV looked very impressive with 5-0 victory.
Sadie Driver scored two goals for the Lady Saints, and Audrey Gillenwater scored once. Ally "Cat" Wilbur and Carly Vance helped out with assists. Young stopped five at the goal. Alliyah Carroll, Alex Moreno, Micah Bogle, Ava Nokes and Melody Beltran scored in the JV game.
Eighth grade night will be held on Sept. 15 on the high school football field. Eighth grade recognition is at 5:30 p.m., with kick-off at 6 p.m. against the Fentress County Fury.
