A man who left his drugs behind when an officer stopped to help him with his broke down vehicle has been hit with narcotics charges.
The man, Kyle Michael Brown, 19, of Springfield is charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The teen was issued the charges after a deputy stopped to help him on Sparta Highway. “They repaired the vehicle and he was sent on his way,” said Sheriff Patrick Ray, noting that the officer noticed Brown had left behind a milk crate on the side of the road. “The officer had seen him carrying the crate.”
The deputy put out a radio call for officers to stop Brown. It was at that point the teen was asked about the content of the crate. “He claimed he had gotten it out of the trailer of a friend,” the sheriff reported.
Among the items of interest to lawmen was a locked lock box. The deputy challenged Brown to prove the box belonged to him by unlocking it. The teen complied and opened the box.
“A suboxone pill was inside,” the sheriff said, noting the deputy then found out that Brown was already on probation for drug possession.
A further search of the teen’s vehicle netted digital scales which had a white powdery residue on them.
