The sheriff’s department arrested a 40-year-old Smithville man on Sept. 22 and charged him with four counts of forgery.

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, James Mitchell Johnson allegedly passed four forged checks at local businesses earlier this month. Ray said Johnson passed checks at Wilson Bank and Trust for $300 on Sept 11, then at DeKalb Market for $100 and at Save-A-Lot for $125 on Sept 13, then at Walmart for $21.81 on Sept. 14.

His bond is set at $40,000 bond and he will appear in court on Oct. 8.

Kevin Troy Coe, 54, of Auburntown was charged with a second offense of driving under the influence and cited for violation of the implied consent law, the light law, the financial responsibility law, and the open container law on Sept. 23.

The sheriff said a deputy spotted a red Chevy S-10 traveling east on Nashville Highway with a brake light out and conducted a traffic stop. He allegedly spoke with the driver, Coe, who had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Coe reportedly submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks. Two open containers of beer were found in the vehicle, and he refused to take a blood test.

His bond was set at $3,000, and he will appear in court on Oct. 1.

Dana Annette Kennedy, 43, of McMinnville was charged with domestic assault on Sept. 26.

Ray said that Kennedy assaulted her sister by punching her in the face, allegedly causing cuts to her face and a busted lip. The incident reportedly occurred at a location on Blue Springs Road. Kennedy was determined to have been the primary aggressor and was placed under arrest.

Her bond was set at $2,500, and she will appear in court on Oct. 29.
