Low gas prices keep pilots flying high
airport pic
Photo provided Smithville Airport is reaping the benefits of buying gas at a low price because it is now able to lure pilots to top off locally. The additional landings lead to increased funds for local government.
The idea of buy low and sell low has left the Smithville Airport sitting pretty when it comes to luring aircraft into the local runway. County Commissioner Joe Johnson estimated the local airport sells $12,000 worth of fuel a month, the amount surpassing most other airports its size. The reason for the high sales, he noted, was the timing of the purchase of fuel by the local entity.
