Bro. David Mahan has been named director of missions for the Salem Baptist Association.
The association consists of 33 churches in DeKalb and Cannon counties who work together on mission projects, focusing on evangelism.
Mahan took the position at the beginning of July after serving as pastor of Whorton Springs Baptist Church for more than 11 years.
“We had a great relationship at Whorton Springs,” Mahan told the Review. “It’s a wonderful church, and the Lord has blessed us tremendously there.”
He said although he was happy in his position as pastor, he felt called to seek the spot with the Salem Baptist Association.
“The Lord just led me to apply for the position, and that’s where we are today,” he said.
“My last Sunday as pastor at Whorton Springs was the last Sunday in June. We are still members there, and are actively involved in the church, but as director of missions I will be visiting all of our 33 churches on a regular basis.
“As director of missions, I will work with those churches in lining up and helping with mission projects,” he continued.
“Our churches have mission partnerships around the world. We do evangelism events throughout the year trying to reach people with the gospel. We have a mission trips planned to Belize and Saskatchewan, Canada this fall.
