A 25-year-old local woman faces theft charges after authorities said that she broke into a barn and stole tools in December.

Stephanie Michelle Maloney was charged with burglary and theft under $500. According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Maloney broke into a barn on Long Branch Road and took an air tank, tool box, and tools valued at $135. The case was investigated by a Sheriff’s Department Detective.

Maloney’s bond was set at $6,500, and she will appear in court on Jan. 26.

Meanwhile, Carlos Emmanual Santos, 25, was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a penal institution on Jan. 13.

Ray said that while he was a prisoner at the jail, Santos was found to have 0.12 ounces of a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana in his possession, along with three blue pills thought to be Oxycodone (30 mg).

His bond was set at $3,500 and his court date is Jan. 26.

Kandy Ashton Goldstein, 21, was charged with filing a false report on Dec. 15.

Sheriff Ray said that Goldstein filed a vandalism report with the sheriff’s department, reporting that her 2014 Dodge Avenger had sustained heavy damage to the driver side due to vandalism, and that she noticed it from inside her home. Goldstein allegedly stated she did not know how it happened or who did it. She later admitted during an interview that she caused part of the damage after running into a ditch on Old Blue Springs Road and that a friend had hit a pole while driving the vehicle. The case was investigated by a Sheriff’s Department Detective.

Her bond was set at $1,500, and her court date is Feb. 9.

Melody Ann Thomas, 56, of McMinnville was charged with driving under the influence and cited for driving on roadways laned for travel on Jan. 15.

The sheriff said a deputy received a call about a black Nissan car traveling toward Smithville on Short Mountain Highway and driving recklessly. The lawman reportedly located the vehicle and saw it deviate from its lane of travel. Ray said the officer made a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, Thomas.

Her eyes were allegedly bloodshot, and she reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol on her person. She initially admitted to having consumed one beer, but later said she had several beers. Thomas performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and submitted to a blood test.

Her bond was set at $1,500, and her court date is Feb. 9.
