Man accused of breaking mothers ribs

A 46-year-old local man has been taken into custody by the sheriff’s department after he allegedly broke his mother’s ribs during an assault.

 

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, John Thomas Bailey faces domestic assault charges. The sheriff said that a deputy dispatched to a Short Mountain Highway home on Nov. 24 for a possible domestic assault spoke with Bailey and his mother.

 

The woman allegedly told the officer that her son had pushed her down several times inside the residence. She was transported to the emergency room by DeKalb EMS to the emergency room, where she was reportedly found to have broken ribs and a scraped knee.

 

Bailey was arrested the following day. His bond was set at $6,000 and he will appear in court on Dec. 15.

 

Charles Elmer Burrage, III, 47, of Redmon Road, Smithville was charged with domestic assault on Nov. 25.

 

Ray said that Burrage admitted to assaulting his son by punching him in the head several times, causing swelling and bruising.

 

His bond was set at $4,500, and his court date is Dec. 15.

 

Carl Everett Martin, 54, was charged with aggravated assault on Nov. 27.

 

The sheriff said a deputy dispatched to the Cookeville Highway area in reference to a possible domestic made contact with a woman who was walking along the highway. The woman reportedly told him that she and her husband, Martin, had gotten into an argument and, that he had grabbed her by the neck and tried to strangle her. The woman allegedly had red marks on her neck, and said she had difficulty breathing.

 

His bond is $3,500, and his court date is Dec. 15.

 

Cindy Lynn Griffith, 46, of Antioch was charged with a second offense of driving under the influence and issued citations for driving on a revoked license, violation of the open container law, and violation of the financial responsibility (no insurance) on Nov. 25.

 

Ray said a deputy was dispatched to a call of a possible drunk driver on Highway 70 spotted the vehicle and found Griffith to be the driver. She was reportedly unsteady on her feet, and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her person.

 

Griffith reportedly refused to submit to field sobriety tasks, but allegedly admitted to being drunk. She could not provide proof of insurance, and found in the vehicle were several open bottles of beer. A computer check revealed that her license was revoked for a DUI offense on February 27, 2012.

 

Her bond is $3,000, and her court date is Dec. 15.
