An alleged drunk driver was arrested on April 2 after he reportedly almost struck a deputy’s patrol car.
Johnny Michael Howard, 51, of Sparta was charged with his third driving under the influence offense and cited for failure to maintain his lane of travel.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray said a deputy was patrolling Highway 70 just past Sligo Bridge Howard’s Dodge Caravan, left its lane of travel and nearly sideswiped the patrol car. Upon stopping the officer found the driver to be Howard.
He allegedly had a strong odor of alcohol on his person, and was unsteady on his feet. His speech was reportedly slurred, and his eyes were bloodshot.
Ray said Howard performed poorly on all field sobriety tasks, and was placed under arrest.
Howard's bond was set at $4,500 and he will appear in court on April 24.
Meanwhile, 39-year-old Autumn Danielle White of Page Drive, Smithville was charged with a second offense of driving on a suspended license and issued a citation for simple possession of a Schedule III drug (Hydrocodone), possession of a prohibited weapon, drug paraphernalia and open containers on April 6.
Ray said a deputy on routine patrol saw White driving an automobile. The officer, having prior knowledge that White did not have a license stopped the vehicle. A computer check revealed that White's license were suspended for failure to satisfy a citation.
A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a set of scales, two hydrocodone pills, and a Billy club and two open beers in the front seat.
Her bond was set at $3,000 and she will be in court April 17.
Mark Denver Young, 33, was charged with driving on a revoked license on April 6.
Sheriff Ray said that on Sunday, April 6 a deputy saw Young operating a vehicle on Barnes Mill Road. Having prior knowledge that Young did not have a license, the officer stopped the vehicle.
Ray said a computer check confirmed that Young's license were revoked for driving under the influence. He was arrested and brought to the jail for booking.
His bond was set at $1,500 and he will appear in court on April 17.
