A 43-year-old local man has been charged in connection with the burglary of an outbuilding on East Broad Street.
Richard Scott Adams not only faces charges of theft of property over $1,000, but was charged with introduction of contraband in a penal institution. Authorities said Adams was found with cocaine and a syringe in his sock after he was taken to jail.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, an investigation revealed that Adams took two tillers, a leaf blower, a John Deere riding mower and a trailer from an out building on East Broad Street on Oct. 10. The items reportedly had a total value of more than $1,000. He was arrested and charged with the thefts on Oct. 21.
After being taken into custody and transported to jail, correctional officers allegedly found the white powdery substance believed to be cocaine and the syringe in Adams’ sock.
His bonds total $15,000 and he will appear in court on Oct. 31.
James Waylon Kyle, 56, was charged with driving under the influence and cited for failure to maintain his lane of travel on Oct. 26.
Ray said a deputy saw Kyle repeatedly leave his lane of travel while driving on Highway 56. The deputy reportedly stopped Kyle’s vehicle and detected a strong odor of alcohol. Kyle was allegedly unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred.
The sheriff said Kyle submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks, and submitted to a blood alcohol test.
His bond was set at $2,500 and he will appear in court on Nov. 7.
Timothy Eugene Panter, 43, was charged with driving under the influence on Oct. 27. He was also cited for failure to maintain his lane of travel and for violation of the implied consent law.
Ray said a deputy saw a Dodge pickup, driven by Panter, leaving its lane of travel several times. The truck allegedly crossed into the lawman’s lane of travel and almost hit his patrol car.
According to the sheriff, when the deputy stopped the truck Panter had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person. His eyes were allegedly bloodshot and he was reportedly very unsteady on his feet.
Ray said Panter performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, but he refused to submit to a blood test.
His bond was set at $2,500 and he will appear in court on Nov. 7.
