Smithville City Police have arrested a 40-year-old local man on charges that he  touched his 11-year-old niece inappropriately.
According to Smithville Police Chief Randy Caplinger, Joel Henry was charged after an an investigation into an incident at a College Street home led to his arrest. According to the warrant, the child was asleep in bed with her grandmother, and awoke to find Henry standing over her and allegedly touching her private areas.
Henry’s bond was set at $25,000, and he will appear in court on June 5.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Lucas Shane Bogle was arrested last week and charged with stealing an SUV in January.
Bogle was charged with the theft of a 1999 Toyota 4-Runner from the driveway of a Riley Avenue home on Jan. 29. He allegedly drove the Toyota to a local scrap yard where it was sold.
Caplinger said the truck was “in perfect shape and running good,” and was valued at more than $5,000. It was reportedly sold for $489.
Caplinger said the vehicle was recovered the same day it was taken, but Bogle has been on the run since the incident. He was picked up last week in Wilson County and charged with auto theft. His bond was set at $15,000.
Jesse R. Herman, 20 was charged with burglary and theft on April 27.
Caplinger said officers were dispatched to NHC Healthcare Center to investigate a complaint of two vehicles having been broken into. A suspicious person, later identified as Herman, had been spotted near the scene.
 An officer reportedly located Herman on White Street, and Herman's girlfriend told police that Herman had burglarized the vehicles. The chief said personal belongings with a value of $605 were taken from the two vehicles.
His bond was set at $16,500.
Roy Douglas Atnip, 53, was charged with domestic violence on May 6.
Caplinger said Atnip and his girlfriend got into an argument at a residence on East Main Street. Atnip allegedly pulled a glass cabinet over and hit the woman on the leg. His bond was set at $2,500.
Kenny Dyal, Jr., 27, was charged with resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest, or search on May 25.
Caplinger said police were at a residence on Jackson Street investigating a prowler call when an officer saw Dyal running out the front door.
After a brief foot chase, the officer caught Dyal and placed him under arrest.
His bond was set at $1,500.
Jason Sturdivant, 27, was charged with filing a false report on April 6.
Caplinger said that police responded to the Tannery at 504 West Broad Street after a vehicle crashed into the front of the building. An officer spoke with, who said he was traveling west on Broad Street when a small green vehicle pulled out in front of him from Anthony Avenue, causing him to hit the curb and lose control of the vehicle.
Video surveillance from a nearby business, however, apparently showed  Sturdivant's vehicle pulling out from Anthony Avenue, crossing the highway, and striking the building.
His bond was set at $6,000.
Steve Mabe, Jr., 40 was charged with theft over $500 on May 3.
Mabe allegedly removed four tires and wheels from a vehicle at Lynn's Auto Sales on Dry Creek Road and replaced them with other tires and wheels. Caplinger said he also took a radio from the vehicle.
The stolen tires, wheels, and radio were found on a vehicle at Mabe’s home.
His bond was set at $5,000.
Joshua Cripps, 22, was charged with theft of property on May 7.
Cripps allegedly stole a radiator from the bed of a truck in the parking lot of Evins Manor Apartments on Foster Road. He was arrested after being found in possession of the radiator.
His bond was set at $2,500.
Jason Skaroupka, 35, was charged with a fifth offense of driving on a revoked license on May 16.
Caplinger said an officer stopped  a Jeep for speeding on South Congress Boulevard, and the driver, Skaroupka told the officer that he did not have a valid license because they were revoked for failure to pay child support. He reportedly f could not show proof of insurance.
A computer check confirmed that Skaroupka's driver license are revoked and that he is an habitual traffic offender.
His bond was set at $12,500.
