A local man has been charged with possession of a Schedule II drug for resale after a traffic stop by city police.

Brandon Lee Starnes, 39, was arrested on Jan. 4 after an officer saw Starnes operating a motor vehicle. Knowing that Starnes’ license was expired, the lawman pulled him over, and when he exited his vehicle he reportedly handed the officer approximately seven grams of methamphetamine from a black pouch. Police allegedly found twelve more grams of methamphetamine along with several individual baggies in the pouch as well.

A search of Starnes’ vehicle reportedly turned up a set of digital scales in the glove compartment and several individual baggies. He was also cited for driving with an expired license.

Starnes’ bond was set at $35,000.

Meanwhile, Gregory Michael Patton, 41, was cited for three counts of simple possession on Jan. 5.

An officer called to do a welfare check on someone found asleep in a vehicle reportedly discovered Patton. After asking him to step out of the vehicle, the officer reportedly saw Patton trying to hide something in his shoe.

A container with eleven pills believed to be Xanax and 2½ pills thought to be Subutex, for which Patton had no prescription, were found in his shoe. Police also allegedly found less than a gram of methamphetamine on Patton.

Andy J. Certain, 39, was cited for simple possession on Jan. 6.

Certain was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over for a traffic stop. Before the vehicle stopped, the officer allegedly saw Certain throw something out the passenger window.

After obtaining consent to search, the officer reportedly found 0.4 grams of methamphetamine on the passenger seat where Certain had been sitting.
