A Smithville man who allegedly left two children home alone has been charged with two counts of child abuse or neglect. Jeffery Mark Hatfield, 26, was charged on Jan. 12 after one of the children was reportedly found in the road. Sheriff Patrick Ray said a detective patrolling Adcock Cemetery Road just before dark on Thursday, came upon a three-year-old girl standing in the middle of the road, almost hitting the child.
