Man charged with neglect after child found in street

A Smithville man who allegedly left two children home alone has been charged with two counts of child abuse or neglect.

 

Jeffery Mark Hatfield, 26, was charged on Jan. 12 after one of the children was reportedly found in the road. Sheriff Patrick Ray said a detective patrolling Adcock Cemetery Road just before dark on Thursday, came upon a three-year-old girl standing in the middle of the road, almost hitting the child. The officer reportedly stopped checked on the girl, and contacted the Department of Children Services.

 

After searching for more than an hour, authorities located the child’s home and found a two-year-old boy who was home alone. According to the sheriff, Hatfield left the children in an unsafe situation, placing them in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury.

 

He is under a $20,000 bond, and his court date is set for Jan. 26.

 

Meanwhile, Christopher Jacob Roach, 24, of Summer, Tennessee was arrested on Jan. 13 for unlawful possession or carrying of a weapon.

 

Ray said that a detective and deputy responded to West Main Street in Alexandria on Aug. 15 for a complaint that a felon was living there, and that he was illegally in possession of a firearm. Upon arrival, the officers spoke to the complainant, who said that Roach had three firearms in his home. A further investigation revealed that Roach did live at the residence and that he is a convicted felon.

 

His bond was set at $5,000, and his court date is Jan. 26.

 

Patricia Yvonne Peachey, 31, was charged with a second offense of driving on a revoked license on Jan. 11.

 

The sheriff said a deputy was patrolling New Home Road when he spotted a vehicle ahead leave its lane of travel multiple times. He stopped the car and spoke with the driver, Peachey.

 

A computer check allegedly revealed that her license was revoked due to a DUI offense in Rutherford County in 2013. She was also charged with DRL in Rutherford County three years ago.

 

Her bond is $3,000, and her court date is Jan. 26.
