The sheriff’s department arrested a 20-year-old local man on April 15 and charged him with possession of a Schedule VI drug for resale.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, a detective executed a search warrant at the man’s old Snow hill Road home and found 4.3 ounces of marijuana inside a trash can. The detective allegedly found a set of scales and a box of sandwich baggies in the room as well.
The sheriff said a jar containing .2 ounces of marijuana was found under the kitchen sink inside a trash can as well. Derrick allegedly admitted that the marijuana belonged to him.
Ray said detectives obtained the search warrant after investigating Derrick on suspicion of illegal sales of drugs.
His bond was set at $5,000, and he appear in court on May 5.
Meanwhile, David Dewayne Anderson, 46, was charged with a second offense of driving on a revoked license on April 13. He was also cited for simple possession of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine), violation of the financial responsibility law (no insurance), possession of drug paraphernalia, and simple possession of a Schedule IV drug (Xanax).
The sheriff said a detective spotted Anderson operating a motor vehicle on Short Mountain Highway. Knowing that Anderson's driver license was revoked, the officer stopped the automobile, and a computer check confirmed the detective’s suspicions.
Anderson reportedly had a prior offense in Rutherford County in 2011 as well. When the detective searched Anderson he allegedly found a purple container with a white powdery substance that weighed 0.2 grams and field tested positive for methamphetamine in his pants pocket. The container also reportedly held half a green pill that Anderson said was Xanax. Four needles and straws were also recovered from his vehicle.
His bond was set at $3,000, and he will appear in court on April 21.
A 31-year-old man has been charged with domestic assault and child abuse or neglect after an alleged April 16 attack on his wife and 15-year-old step son.
Ray said a deputy responding to a residence on R. Arnold Road to check out a possible physical domestic situation in progress learned that Velasquez had allegedly grabbed and pulled his wife's hair in a violent manner and asked her if she wanted to fight. He was determined to have been the primary aggressor and was placed under arrest.
During the investigation, the officer also spoke to Valasquez's 15-year-old stepson, who reportedly said that Velasquez was upset with him and called him outside, where Valasquez grabbed him by his hair and “jerked him up.” Valasquez then allegedly grabbed the boy by the collar of his shirt, ripping it, and asked if he wanted to fight.
Velasquez bond was set at $7,000, and he will appear in court on May 26.
Samer Walid Abdalla, 35, was charged with public intoxication on April 14.
Ray said that Abdalla showed up for General Sessions Court in an intoxicated state. A deputy who was in the courtroom at the time allegedly saw that Abdalla was very unsteady on his feet, that his eyes were bloodshot, and that his behavior was very erratic.
Abdalla reportedly submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on May 26.
John Thomas Mason, 21, was charged with assault on April 16.
Ray said that Mason struck another inmate with his fist, causing an eye injury while incarcerated in the DeKalb County Jail.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on May 5.
Autumn Danielle White, 41, was charged with violation of probation and driving under the influence, as well as being cited for for driving on a revoked license, failure to exercise due care, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of the implied consent law, and violation of the open container law on april 16.
Ray said a deputy on routine patrol came upon a wreck on McMinnville Highway. The officer stopped and found that White had been driving the vehicle involved in the accident.
Her eyes were reportedly bloodshot, her speech was slurred, and she was unsteady on her feet. White performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, but refused to submit to a blood test.
The sheriff said that a search of the vehicle revealed an open container of alcohol and a pouch holding several syringes and a spoon.
Her bond on the DUI was set at $1,500 and she appear in court on May 26. She is being held without bond for the violation of probation, and will appear on that charge on May 20.
Ricardo Carabeo, 34, was charged with driving under the influence and cited for violation of the implied consent law, driving on roadways laned for travel, violation of financial responsibility (no insurance), violation of the open container law, and driving on an expired license on April 17.
Ray said a deputy observed a green car leave its lane of travel several times on Sparta Highway. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, Carabeo, who allegedly had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person, slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet, and his eyes were glossy.
Carabeo allegedly said he had consumed two beers. He submitted to one field sobriety task and performed poorly, then refused to perform any further tasks.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on May 26.
Andrea Nicole Bass, 34, was cited for no seatbelt and simple possession of a Schedule IV drug on April 16.
The sheriff said a deputy stopped a red Chevrolet Blazer driven by a woman who was not wearing a seatbelt and spoke with the driver, Bass. After asking for and receiving consent to search the vehicle, the lawman reportedly found 54 blue football-shaped pills identified as Xanax, for which Bass apparently had no prescription.
She will appear in court on May 26.
