A 29-year-old Dowelltown man has been arrested by the sheriff’s department and charged with raping a woman at knifepoint on July 10. Joseph Stephen Audas of Circle Drive, Dowelltown faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated rape in the case.

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Audas tied the woman’s hands with a belt and held her down at knifepoint while hitting her in the face. He allegedly struck the woman’s left ear and cut her under the chin and throat with the knife.

He reportedly raped the woman by digital penetration while armed with the knife, allegedly threatening to kill her if she did not cooperate.

His bond was set at $35,000, and he will appear in court July 24.

Steven Anthony Nelson, 36, of Tracy City was charged with violation of bond conditions and coercion of a witness on July 8.

Nelson was first arrested on July 3 for domestic assault. The sheriff said a deputy dispatched to a South College Street apartment spoke with a woman who said that she and her husband, Nelson had gotten into a verbal argument and that he began threatening her. Nelson allegedly pushed his wife to the ground and began hitting her, causing a cut to her nose, a swollen eye.

Ray said a deputy dispatched to the hospital on July 8 spoke with a woman who reported that she had awoken to find Nelson, her husband, standing over her. He allegedly told her that if she did not drop domestic assault warrants against him, his father would come to her home and shoot her in the face.

His bond was set at $10,000, and he will appear in court on July 24.

Gregory Scott Redmon, 56, was charged with a second offense of driving under the influence on July 8. The sheriff said a deputy responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident on Midway Road and spoke with Redmon, who was involved in the wreck. The officer allegedly detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Redmon, and saw that he was unsteady on his feet.

When asked how many beers he had consumed, Redmon said he had a few a couple of hours before. Redmon was reportedly unable to perform field sobriety tasks due to medical reasons.

A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a beer can with the contents spilled onto the floor, along with a mug of ice and beer. A computer check revealed that Redmon had a prior DUI in 2013.

His bond was set at $3,000 and he will appear in court on Aug. 21.

Ann Kathryn Pursell, 21, was charged with domestic assault on july 10.

Ray said a deputy dispatched to Pursell’s home in reference to a physical domestic in progress spoke with Pursell and a man. The man allegedly said Pursell punched him in the face, scratched the right side of his face, and the back of his neck. Pursell reportedly admitted to punching and scratching him and she was placed under arrest.

Her bond was set at $2,500 and she will appear in court on July 24.

Chrissy Michelle Evans, 40, was charged with domestic assault and violation of bond conditions on July 12.

Evans allegedly assaulted her husband at his residence on Sims Street in Dowelltown. Ray said she ripped his shirt off and left marks on his chest and left arm. An investigation concluded that Evans was the primary aggressor.

Evans had also violated her bond conditions in a previous case by being around her husband. Her bond was set at $10,000, and she will appear in court on July 17.

Amanda Marie Hatfield, 22, was charged with domestic assault on July 13.

Ray said a deputy responded to Hatfield’s residence to investigate a domestic call. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with Hatfield and a man. Both reportedly admitted that there had been an altercation, and that Hatfield had started it by punching the man.

Hatfield allegedly bit the man on the arm, and suffered a busted lip after the man punched her in the mouth. In another incident that day, Sheriff Ray said Hatfield started an argument with the man and began spitting on him while he was holding children.

By her own admission, Hatfield was the primary aggressor in both situations. Her bond was set at $1,500 and she will appear in court on July 17.

Joseph Lawrence Battle, 63, was charged with driving under the influence on July 11. He was also cited for driving on roads laned for traffic.

According to the sheriff, while a deputy was patrolling on Highway 70, he spotted a white Nissan Maxima cross over into the oncoming lane several times. When the officer stopped the vehicle, the driver, Battle, allegedly stumbled out of the car and the deputy had him back into the vehicle.

Battle reportedly admitted to having had a few glasses of wine. He submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks. He also took a blood test.

His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on Aug. 21.
