Willard Darrell Brown, 42, was recently charged with vandalism by city police.
According to Smithville Police Chief Caplinger, an officer dispatched to a residence at City Walk Apartments on Bryant Street spoke with a woman who reported that Brown had damaged her apartment and car. Brown allegedly admitted to damaging the apartment and vandalizing the car with a hammer.
His bond was set at $2,500, and he appear be in court on Jan. 15.
Sonny Stults, 23, is charged with driving under the influence. An officer dispatched to an automobile accident on Allen's Chapel Road allegedly found Stults to be the driver of the vehicle. He reportedly had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person. He reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety tasks and a portable breath test.
Cherri Murphy, 42, is charged with public intoxication. An officer was reportedly dispatched to an East Bryant Street home where police had been called for the second time that day on a disturbance call allegedly found Murphy to be unsteady on her feet with slurred speech. Authorities said she was in a hallway using profane language toward other people when they arrived.
Terry Brent Hall, 56, is charged with public intoxication. An officer dispatched to 724 Short Mountain Street for a possible intoxicated person allegedly found Hall lying in the back yard. Police said he had been drinking from a half-gallon bottle of Country Club vodka.
William Keith Melson, 25, is cited for shoplifting. An officer responded to a shoplifting report at Food Lion, and was reportedly told that Melson had been observed putting two beers inside his coat pocket.
Jeffery Dawes, 30, is cited for shoplifting. The chief said according to a Walmart employee, Dawes left the store with unpaid-for merchandise in his possession. He was confronted and found with the items.
Zel Carter, 25, is cited for shoplifting. Carter was allegedly observed by Walmart employees placing two SD cards valued at $99.76 in his pocket. He was reportedly stopped trying to leave the store without paying for the cards.
