A Smithville man was cited for DUI and charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident after he was involved in two separate collisions on Highway 70 Wednesday. According to city police, 47-year-old Douglas Ferrell’s vehicle struck a 2003 Nissan Sentra driven by 23-year-old Macy Nokes near DeKalb County High School and continued east. Central dispatch reported receiving calls from witnesses who saw the car traveling at speeds of up to 70 miles and hour and nearly striking other vehicles. The first accident scene was worked by Smithville Police Department Corporal Travis Bryant. Officer Matt Farmer, who worked the second scene, said Ferrell crossed all five lanes at a high rate of speed and left the street on the right side, making contact with a utility pole. Both Ferrell and his wife Angel, 42, a passenger in the vehicle, were transported to DeKalb Community Hospital by DeKalb EMS.
